This 1901 drawing is one of Haverkamp's most representative works, showcasing his ability to transform the ordinary into a timeless, modern artwork. In this large and virtuoso sheet, Gerrit Haverkamp presents a vivid scene of rural life in the Twente countryside, with the fields surrounding Rijssen serving as the backdrop. The work stands out for its striking contrast between the heavily rendered, detailed wooden cart and the free, fluid lines depicting the surrounding landscape and sky.  

Complementing this robustness are the soft, vibrating pastel colors that dance throughout the composition.
